In Egypt Muslims Who Kill Christians Often Claim 'Insanity'
(AINA)
In Egypt an often used defense by Muslims accused of killing Christians is insanity. According to said Coptic activist Maged Bishay, "Islamist investigators, judges and psychiatrists are only too willing to go with this pretext, to allow their fellow Muslims to 'get away with murder' based on the Islamic law 'Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one.'"
One of the latest examples if the insanity defense was the murder of the Coptic Christian deacon George Fathi, who was killed in Alexandria on October 6, 2009, deliberately and with premeditation, by two fundamentalist brothers, 21-year-old Mohamed Abdel-Moneim and his 17-year-old brother Ahmed.
The two brothers visited George in his flat at mid-day, strangled and electrocuted him until his intestines burst out. His father, who was sitting in a coffee house facing their flat, saw smoke coming out and when he opened the door he found his son dead and disfigured. The killers opened a butane cylinder and made a fire to cause an explosion but this was averted by the father and neighbors, who testified having seen three bearded men enter the flat earlier.
When the Abdel-Moneim brothers were arrested, they said the victim tried to sexually assault them, so they killed him in self-defense. The 17-year old brother was released for being under-age and handed over to his family.
The media, orchestrated by statements issued by the Egyptian State Security, immediately propagated the claim of sexual assault and, as expected, it found support and empathy for the killer from the Muslim public.
"The accused tried to take us down this path but the investigation found no evidence that deacon George practiced homosexuality," said Mokbel Sobhy, the victim's family attorney. "I will file lawsuits against those newspapers for defamation of character."
Friends of George Fathi said that he was known all over Alexandria for proselytizing Christianity, and the reason behind his killing was that he helped the sister of the Abdel-Moneim brothers convert to Christianity, and they killed him in retaliation.
During a court session on January 24, 2010, the lawyer for the defendant argued that the defendant Mohamed is suffering from mental illness and was not responsible for his actions, and asked for his client to be referred to psychiatric assessment to determine whether he was competent. The court accepted this request and adjourned the hearing until 4/24/2010.
On April 24, 2010 the presiding judge stated the psychiatric assessment of Mohamed Abdel-Moneim confirmed that he was suffering from insanity. The lawyers of the victim requested to question the doctor who issued the report and to refer the defendant to a psychiatric committee. The judge said they could choose on of the two requests, so they chose the latter.
On September 16, 2009, 35-year-old car painter Osama Araban (El-Bohyagi) went to the village of Bahgour, stabbed 63-year old Coptic Christian Abdo George Younan nine times until his intestines fell out, then severed his head from his body -- an Islamic ritual beheading. He washed his bloody bayonet with the water hose which the victim was previously using, before setting off on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, to stab with intention to kill, two other Copts in two different villages, at least 10 km apart. When arrested, he confessed fully to his crime (AINA 9-21-2009)">>(AINA 9-21-2009).
Renowned attorney and activist Dr.Naguib Ghoraeel, head of Egyptian Union Human Rights Organization, issued a press release on September 17, accusing the Interior Ministry of lying by suggesting the incident "is a mere quarrel," and warned them that no one will believe that the murderer is "mentally unstable," should they use this defense.
In November 2009, Osama was referred to a psychiatric hospital for assessment, Mr. Ahmed Kelany, lawyer of the family of the beheaded victim, in an interview with The Freecopts said that "the assailant resorting to mental disorder is an attempt to escape the penalty for his crime, which is premeditated murder. This was confirmed by all the circumstances and the eyewitness testimonies."
Another high-profile case which had the same ending, took place in Alexandria on April 14, 2006, during the last day of the Holy Lent. A series of knife attacks at three Alexandria churches resulted in the death of a 63-year-old Christian man, Noshi Girgis, and injuries to several other Christians. An attack on a fourth church was foiled. Witnesses said that the assailant called out Jihad chants during the attacks. The interior ministry claimed that only one man was responsible for the attacks and named Mahmoud Salah-Eddin Abdel-Raziq, 25, and described him as "psychologically disturbed", even before his arrest. "This was a way to close the case file before investigations have started," commented activist Mark Naguib at the time.
Christians were enraged by the government's scenario that Abdel-Raziq had attacked alone three churches, miles away from each other, by walking and using public transport, all in the same morning. This version of events contradicted earlier police reports which told of three simultaneous attacks and that three men who were involved in these attacks had been arrested. Most Copts believed that it was an Islamist pre-planned attack, carried out by more than one person.
During the funeral of the murdered Copt Noshi, clashes between Muslims who were hurling stones and Christians took place, leading to arrests on both sides. The way the government dealt with this case sparked global condemnation and Coptic rallies worldwide.
Freecopts reported on Al Jazeera News report aired on April 14th, detailing the attacks on the churches and naming four different Muslim perpetrators, which corresponded with the description of the assailants given by witnesses in the different churches.
On June 29, 2006 Egypt's prosecutor-general ordered Mahmoud Abdel-Raziq to be committed to a mental hospital after a medical evaluation and without trial, the duration of his incarceration was not specified. No news was ever heard of him after that.
Rasha Nour, head of Egypt4Christ advocacy, believes there are many "insanity" incidents which are not reported by the police; on presentation of a medical certificate, sometimes supplied by the police, the assailant is then released after the Coptic victim is forced by them to sign a reconciliation note.

Egypt to extend the emergency law
By-Egypt News
Egyptian Government called the parliament Tuesday for an extension of Egypt's controversial emergency law for two years, but restricting it during this period to terrorism and drugs trafficking crimes and with some new limitations on police powers
Meanwhile, more than 100 opposition lawmakers and democracy activists are protesting outside parliament demanding lawmakers reject any extension.
Egypt's Parliament, dominated by ruling party members, is due to vote on the measure on Tuesday and is certain to pass it.
The emergency law, in place since 1981, gives police wide powers of arrest. Under the new provisions, police would only be allowed to use them in cases connected to terrorism or drug dealing, and a few police powers would be eliminated, according to Cabinet minister Moufid Shehab.
On its part, Human rights groups said that the Egyptian Government has used the law to suppress dissent.
Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif called for an extension of the controversial law for an extra two years until the formulation of a balanced counter-terrorism law, addressing the Egyptian People's Assembly (lower house of parliament)
The request presented by the Egyptian prime minister included for the first time legal restrictions on both "the scope and the application of the emergency law," the government said in a press release.
"The reforms significantly curtail the special powers provided under the Emergency Law, prohibiting the government from monitoring communications and media, confiscating publications and property and ordering evacuations," the release said.
Under the proposed resolution, the government would be legally limited to using the authorities for purposes of countering the threats of terrorism and narcotics trafficking.
The authorities granted to the government will be restricted to the arrest of terrorist suspects and drug traffickers, searching people and places suspected of involvement in such crimes and the cancellation of licenses to possess arms or own explosive materials as well as the right to confiscate them.
"The government as it requests an extension of the state of emergency for a duration of two years, commits itself before the representatives of the nation not to utilizing extraordinary measures ... except for confronting the threat of terrorism and narcotics," Nazif said in his address amid heckling of opposition members.
Egypt's Emergency Law has been in force since 1981 following the assassination of late President Anwar Sadat by a group named Egyptian Islamic Jihad which violently opposed a peace treaty with Israel.

The mosque at ground zero

Exclusive: Spitting in the Face of Everyone Murdered on 9/11
Gadi Adelman
http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.6177/pub_detail.asp [Editor’s note: highlights added]
Well, it’s official, we have all lost our minds.
I read about this last December, plans for a mosque at Ground Zero, but like a fool, I assumed that New Yorkers would never let this come to pass. A mosque just 600 feet from where the World Trade Center towers once stood. I thought to myself; no way will New York or anyone with a heart or soul, not to mention just plain common sense, ever allow a mosque to be built anywhere near Ground Zero. But, as I said, I am a fool.
The project of a community center /mosque is being proposed by two organizations, the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA) and their sister organization, the Cordoba Initiative. This past Wednesday night they made their presentation to the Community Board of lower Manhattan (CB1). Twelve people sit on the board and would you like to guess what the final vote was? Get ready to grab a barf bag … the 12 members voted unanimously to support the project. Yes, it’s not a typo, it was unanimous, all were in favor and, to give you an idea of how excited the board members were, they applauded during the presentation.
In an article in the New York Daily News on Thursday, retired FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches said,
"I realize it's not all of them, but I don't want to have to go down to a memorial where my son died on 9/11 and look at a mosque. If you ask me, it's a religion of hate." Deputy Chief Riches lost his son Jim, a firefighter, on 9/11.
Also quoted in the article was Rosemary Cain of Massapequa, L.I., whose son, firefighter George Cain, 35, was killed in the 2001 attacks, she called the project,
"a slap in the face. I think it's despicable. That's sacred ground," said Cain, "How could anybody give them permission to build a mosque there? It tarnishes the area."
The mosque would be located in a former Burlington Coat Factory outlet which is just 2 blocks or 600 feet from where the World Trade Towers once stood. I find it ironic that the building has been mostly abandoned since 9/11 because the landing gear of one of the hijacked airplanes crashed through its roof.
The leader and co-founder of the project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, paid $4.85 million dollars for the building in December last year.
In a Fox NY channel 5 interview on Thursday, a 9/11 firefighter Tim Brown described the mosque project as,
"a Trojan horse being rolled into our most sacred ground". He asked the mosque's imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, where did Rauf get the reported $4.85 million in cash to purchase the building?
Needless to say, that question was never answered in full; Rauf would say only that the cash came from “members of the community.”
Tim Brown is a former NY firefighter and one of the few 9/11 survivors to survive the collapse of both WTC towers. He was also a first responder to the 1993 WTC bombing, also executed by a group of Islamic terrorists. He is the founder of the website thebravest.com.
I spoke with Matt Dunning, the Associate Editor of the Tribeca Trib newspaper on the telephone on Sunday. The Tribeca Trib is a monthly newspaper that covers lower Manhattan. Unlike most publications today, they actually report the news. Mr. Dunning explained to me that they “do not even do editorials for that reason”, they report on facts. He was at the CB1 board meeting Wednesday night. We spoke about his article on the meeting and I must say I was shocked when Dunning told me that “not one person from the community came to the meeting was in opposition. If someone had been, we would have reported it.”
This was a public board meeting, and no one who lives or works in this area even showed up to voice his or her opinion that they opposed the mosque? Have we actually arrived at the point in this country where forgiveness or ignorance overrides sense and responsibility?
Back on December 16th, 2009, in an article written shortly after the purchase of the building, Youssef M. Ibrahim wrote the following in Hudson NY,
“As a former New York Times and Wall Street Journal correspondent, and as a New York Sun columnist who covered Islamic fundamentalism extensively overseas and in the USA, I find the facts oddly lacking. The story as reported fails to answer, and avoids asking, so many pertinent questions.
The source of money matters as a significant part of the hundreds of mosques being built and already erected in this country double up as cultural Islamic centers for distributing literature-- Islamist propaganda in fact—from Bay Ridge Brooklyn to Detroit, and for schools growing Muslim minorities. They house Imams of unknown origin and education, many of whom do not speak a word of English but preach in Arabic and Urdu -- radical messages, it often turns out.
As a reporter familiar with the Arab communities of the USA, I doubt the faithful fork out all that money for mega mosques, and if they did, the mayor’s office should prove it, not merely accept someone’s say so. It is an established fact that a significant percentage of the mosques built in the USA in the past two decades are receiving a disproportionate amount of their funds not only from the Saudis, but also the UAE, Qatar and Iran -- all problematic Islamists activist nations. The government just discontinued work on a major Iranian-funded mosque and center in New York City, which had operated under the radar since the days of the good old Shah of Iran under the auspices of the Pahlavi Foundation, and has been owned since 1979 by the Mullahs of Iran.
The context here is that 15 of the 19 perpetrators of the attacks -- on the very site where this new mosque shall rise -- came from Saudi Arabia.”
He ended his article with “One would hope for a follow-up story or stories, and that New York City and its citizens at least ask harder questions, rather than submit to being misled in the interest of political correctness.”
The estimated cost for the 13 story building is $100 million dollars. According to page 8 of the ASMA website financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009 they have “temporarily restricted net assets” as follows:
UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) $ 53,664
MDG3 Fund (Millennium Development Goals) $481,942
Hunt Alternatives Fund $15,000
Carnegie Corporation of N.Y. $ 144,752
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund $50,000
Qatar government fund $576,312
Interestingly, I had no trouble locating all of the groups as linked above, except for the Qatar government fund, which donated over half a million dollars to ASMA in 2009.
The fact that the UN has a hand in this really comes as no surprise given that just last week they embraced the Islamic Republic of Iran by allowing them to become a member of The Commission on the Status of Women, as I wrote about in my article “Even if it were a joke, it wouldn’t be funny”.
Also, according to the same financial statement, on page 10 of the report they list their “Expenditure report for the period October 13, 2008 to June 30, 2009” leaving ASMA with a balance of $988,586.00 when converted from Euros to Dollars using the conversion noted on the same page.
So, assuming this “independent” audit is correct they ended their fiscal year on 6-30-09 with a balance of almost 1 million dollars. I wonder then, where is the money for a 100 million dollar mosque coming from?
As Youssef M. Ibrahim wrote in his article “It is an established fact that a significant percentage of the mosques built in the USA in the past two decades are receiving a disproportionate amount of their funds not only from the Saudis, but also the UAE, Qatar and Iran -- all problematic Islamists activist nations.”
Does anyone have the sense to connect the dots and follow the money trail? Is it not enough that the terrorists who were responsible for 9/11 are from the same country that is funding mosques all over our country, that we have to allow them to fund the building of a mosque in the very location where they committed the most heinous act in American history?
Using this analogy, had the bomb last week in Times Square actually exploded, we would be planning a mosque in Times Square right now. Have we lost our minds so much that we have moved to erecting monuments to perpetrators and not victims?
Currently, in the U.S. there are over 1200 mosques, with at least one in each state. I don’t see the need to build a new mosque at the same location where nearly 3000 people were murdered by terrorists who followed an Islamic ideology that will be preached inside this new one.

The Israeli Army and US DoD Killed My Son
by William A. Hanna, Ph.D.EE
Dear All:
On Sunday, May 2nd 2010, My dearest – My Oldest son Jimmy (Mr. Engineer
James William Hanna) committed suicide. He was diagnosed with Bipolar
(Manic-depressive) Mental Illness 2 Years ago. One will ask why. God and Jimmy only know the real reason, but I know that it was the 8th Anniversary of his arrest in Israel and the humiliation he suffered and could be attributed as the cause for all his following suffering! For traveling to Israel on April 28th with a peace group to render humanitarian aid to the Palestinians under siege in Bethlehem for 60 days under the oppressive rule of the government of Israel.
He also
went with the group to Ram-allah to offer similar aid to those that
were under siege with Yassir Arafat in the presidential compound in
Ram-allah. See.

After the Cadence Corp./Munich Tragedy in his life. He came to St.
Louis, Missouri in 2003. He applied for work as Computers Engineer and
was accepted to work at Boeing in St. Louis where he was an Intern in
His Junior year and was offered a job from Boeing immediately after his
graduation from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1999.
After 3 years working for Boeing, the Industrial Security
Administration (INS) refused to issue a security clearance for jimmy
without reason. Under the Freedom of Information Act he was able to
obtain a letter stating only that there is an incident in his record
that prevents issuing a security clearance. He was Black Listed by our
government who is supposed to be fair and just without the dignity of
an investigation. Guilty as charged without a fair trial or even a two
sided investigation.
Jimmy resigned from Boeing in 2009 because he could not work for Boeing
anymore. He tried to find professional work but all the doors were
closed in his face.
In 2009, Jimmy became physically and mentally ill. He continued trying
to find professional up to the last week in his life. He was offered
none. He was under professional treatment for both his physical and
mental illnesses by the best professional in St. Louis.
On Sunday, May 2nd (the 8th Anniversary of his unjust imprisonment in
Israel). Jimmy sat down in the basement of our house, I believe between
10:00 AM and Noon because his mom and I were in Church during that time
and he was supposed to join us in Church during that period. Instead,
he pull a brand new 9MM pistol and shot himself in the head and
slumbered peacefully on his favorite couch with his head laying on his
favorite foam bellow. When his mom arrived at our home around 12:30 PM
ahead of me because he was not answering his cell phone calls, she
found him already dead.
Jimmy was born Oct 17, 1977 in Loveland, Colorado USA. He was the most
precious Jewel I had. He suffered unnecessarily for 8 years because of
cruel and unfair world we live in since 911, and his and my biggest
disappointment is the failure of justice in the Land of the Free and
the Home of the Brave. He was both and even more. Jimmy was the most
honest and most brave man I know. We are Christians for crying out
loud. Our Coptic people suffer persecution since Islam invaded Egypt in
642 AD. Our men, even children are being killed and our women are being
raped by Islamic Extremists in Egypt and other parts of the world to
this day. We are proud Copts, the descendants of the Ancient Egyptians,
and proud followers of Christ.
Jimmy was a Church deacon (apsaltos ordination in 1984), very active in
youth service and a learned teacher of the Holy Bible at St. Mary & St.
Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church and elsewhere.

I am not about to tackle court rulings or to criticise them. The judicial authority warrants all due respect and reverence; and there are legal, well established routes to follow if one is to question or contest a ruling. I am just about to comment on a few rulings which appear revolutionary in concept but, even though they may give rise to comfortable public sentiment, they leave behind queries about their legal backing and their compliance with prevalent legislation.
We are all familiar with the climate that governs the building of places of worship and, in case of churches, the oppressive security and political preconditions that have to be met before embarking on the construction procedures. We should not forget especially that no new church can ever be built unless a presidential decree licenses it before any building permit could be issued, a rule which does not apply to mosques; no licence apart from the building permits is needed to build a mosque. In case of already-existing churches; works of expansion, changes, fortification, maintenance, restorations and renovations pre-require procedures that range from merely informing the relevant authorities to obtaining numerous official approvals and building permits.
There can be no two opinions then that there does exist legislations to govern the construction of places of worship. On the ground, procedures are made as simple as possible for mosques and as arduous as can be for churches, which makes us call for a unified law for building places of worship in order to achieve equal and full citizenship rights for all Egyptians regardless of their religion. Yet no-one ever imagined that the answer to the existing inequality lay in the abolition of any regulations whatsoever where the construction of places of worship is concerned. Yet this was exactly what a Sharqiya court ruling issued late last month implied, which the papers touted under the title: “Places of worship need no building permits”.
The news item printed in the papers described the ruling as “significant”, and informed that the misdemeanours court of Awlad Saqr in the governorate of Sharqiya acquitted an engineer and a teacher of charges of building two mosques without obtaining building permits. The legal reasoning declared that “places of worship are sites of public benefit and need no permits; the administrative authorities should be aiding those who build or contribute towards building them. Land owners who donate land to build places of worship should not be held liable if these places are built without permits, since they are public utilities.”
If the Sharqiya court ruling is taken as a legal precedent that would apply to churches, it would make Copts supremely happy to be suddenly liberated from all the oppression they have to undergo to build or restore a church. But in fact, the court has flagrantly oversimplified the matter. It simply waved aside the full list of regulations, procedures, and practices that already govern the building of places of worship and surprised everyone by claiming that such places were public utilities that required no permits. Are places of worship public utilities? Are public utilities other than places of worship exempt from building permits? If the answer to both questions is “yes”, why do Copts have to suffer so severely just to obtain permit to restore a church or licence to build a new one? And why have we been striving—to no avail—for six years now for the passage of a unified law for places of worship?
Apart from all these questions, however, one major—and shocking—question begs an answer. Does the Sharqiya court ruling, no matter how liberal, conform to Egyptian legislation? Or is it some judicious exploitation of the legislation, taking places of worship and religious freedom beyond censure?
It is self evident that instituting legislation is the role of the legislative authority, and that the judicial authority’s role is to apply the regulations stipulated by the legislative authority. In the Sharqiya court ruling, as well as in not a few other cases, rulings appear to lack an obvious backing of existing legislation. Which begs the question: Is the judiciary an authority of legislating or applying the law?
