Cairo Rejects US Human Trafficking Report; Completes Draft to Combat the Phenomenon Soon

By Gomaa Hamdallah
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry criticized the report of the US State Department on human trafficking, which put Egypt on the list of countries that are under observation for the fourth year in a row.
It said the National Coordinating Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, which is under the auspices of the ministry, is about to complete a draft law that criminalizes all forms of human trafficking.Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossam Zaki said: “This report is not prepared in accordance with the recognized international criteria,” pointing out that Egypt takes the fight against human trafficking seriously, as it violates the most basic rights of human beings, their dignity and their liberty.
He added: “The attention paid by Egypt to this issue is clearly reflected in the continuous follow-up and tireless efforts of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, in order to protect women and children from falling victim to this crime.”
He stressed that Egypt categorically rejects reports of this kind by other countries that play judges.
